We had a promising and extraordinary life
Delivered on a double silver platter
We lost ourselves along the way
But that's the way mops flop sometimes
When boyhood dreams break and shatter
We chased and crashed like bumper cars
Prone to jumpy house Shangri-Las
Our will-o'-the-wisps rashly dashed
But that's the way balls bounce sometimes
When last hope bows to loud applause
We failed and fell then failed and fell again
Each second chance overrun by rust
Our fruits of labor swiftly spoiled
But that's the way boughs break sometimes
When brown rot turns to fecund dust
We now have heartening and overflowing lives
Granted with a clean slate of intertwining
We found ourselves along the way
And that's the way winds blow sometimes
When clouds seek a silver lining
